Music
I would like to share some of my musical experiences with you.
Ever since I can remember, I have had a love of music and during my life I have been very fortunate to experience quite a variety of things.
While I was still at school I was given the opportunity to sing with the London Secondary Girls’ choir which was led by Dr Leslie Russell. That really was the beginning of my love for choral singing.
From there I auditioned for the London Bach Choir and spent 25 wonderful years singing with them.
Through the Bach Choir came tours abroad, including Hong Kong, taking part in the City of London’s production of The Yeoman of the Guard in the tower of London, doing a backing for Marianne Faithfull’s version of ‘Yesterday’, singing at Charles and Dianna’s Wedding in St. Pauls Cathedral and many other things.
I learnt to play the piano and achieved my Grade 8 Associated Board
Another experience was going for a Hohner Summer School in Oxford to learn how to play the harmonica! I was never a success at this but I loved the weeks I spent on those Summer Schools. It was there that I met Avril Dankworth and we became friends. I went with her round the Country helping her to run Music Coursed for Teachers.
I became involved with Avril in the Avril Dankworth Music Camps for Children which were held in the grounds of John Dankworth and Cleo Laine’s home in Wavendon, Bucks.
I do hope you will enjoy reading about some of these activities and seeing some photos.
I have recently joined the Newmarket Community Choir and am so happy to be singing again.
