My Poems Page 1

The Rainbow

The rain starts slowly at first

Then beats heavily on my heart.

It will not open

It is afraid

The Storm lashes

The lightening flashes

The thunder cracks

Everywhere is dark.

I long for the rainbow.

God’s promise

Where? Where?

I cannot lift my head

It is too heavy

Too weighed down with cares

Look! Look!

Open your eyes!

There is a rainbow in the puddle.

Fear!

Fear of illness – Fear of hospital    Doctors and nurses all around

Tests - injections- tablets.   Fear of the unknown.

The anaesthetic – the dreaded operation. Sickness and pain and death.

Surrounded by other peoples suffering.

Why? Why does this have to be?

Fear!

Love!

Love of friends and relations.  Thoughts and prayers of so many people.

Cards and flowers arriving by the handful

So many! Assurance that I’m not alone.

Cod cares about me And loves me.   Faith made stronger through suffering.

Love!

Peace!  The peace of Hengrave

Beautiful house – Beautiful Church.

Gardens of utmost serenity and peace.

A Community filled with God’s love. The reconciliation of love and fear.

The peace fills all my being. I grow stronger day by day.

All will be well.

Peace!

I wrote this while staying at Hengrave in May 1987 following an operation at Addenbrookes for the removal of a brain tumour.

Despair.

A seed of fear

Without wings to fly.

Hope.

A seed of love

That is blown to heaven.
